Set-up Canon i-sensys MF8350cdn network scanner in Sane - Error

Wilfred - hotmail
Hi All,

I am trying to get my Canon i-sensys MF8350cdn scanner working over my network, but without luck so far. I have also a HP officejet connect to the network and that is picked up well.
I get the following output when I run scanimage -L in the debugging mode.

~ $ env SANE_DEBUG_BJNP="5" scanimage -L

Does any one have an idea what could be the issue?

Did you select "remote scanner" on the front panel of the device?
Otherwise I get the timeouts as well on my mf8230

Hi Troels,

I folowed your advice and I tried it with the "remote scanner" scan type
on, but unfortunately with the same result. Any other thoughts?

Kind regards,

WillyN2

Hi Wilfred,
Could you try with the firewall completely disabled? It
looks as if the scanner does not react at all OR traffic is blocked by
the firewall.

Adding the scanner in the pixma.conf file should not be necessary as the back-end should auto-detect the scanner (provided the scanner is on the same subnet as the computer). If the backend does not do that, the firewall is a likely source of the problems too.

If it fails even with the firewall disabled, please do a Wireshark capture of the traffic (port 8610 only)
In any case, put the scanner in network mode as Troels described. This seems to be required for MFNP devices, but not for inkjet/ BJNP protocol devices.

Kind regards, Louis
